Our eye colour is determined mainly by our genes. Just like different people have different hair colour and different skin colour, eye colours differ between people too. Here is a link to a website from The Tech Museum of Innovation that explains more about how eye color is determined : http://genetics.thetech.org/online-exhibits/what-color-eyes-will-your-children-have

I don’t think our eye color has any effect on our visual acuity- does anyone else know?

People with darker eyes less dazzled by bright lights. There is some evidence that people with blue eyes and fair skin colour eyes that are more sensitive to pain, but the evidence for this weak.
