I’ve found out that the rate at which the pigments in the eye recover is independent of whereabouts in the eye we measure it. This has led to a new test where two locations are tested at the same time, if there is any difference between them we know that there is a problem. This is very new and is still being investigated.

When I first started this work four years ago it took two weeks for the calculations to be completed by my desktop computer. Now I have written a computer program that completes the calculations in less than a second.

Because there are usually so many objects in our visual field at once, we need attention to ensure that our visual system doesn’t get overloaded in trying to process all the objects at once. I have found out that the way that objects compete for attention is based on the goals that we have, not just the neural activations that are present! 🙂
