This is a really good question and how we mix the signals from two eyes and end up with a single view is still not yet fully understood. It is known that the slightly different views from each eye give rise to our 3D vision. Three dimensional vision is some times called stereopsis, and is the last part of the visual system to develop. It needs both eyes to have similar views and to be in focus. This is why children have their eyes checked when they are very small by a health visitor to see if they can develop normal vision.
