I don’t know, but I know that there are a lot of scientists working on this question all the time. They look at what things in the environment are likely to cause cancer, so we can avoid those things. They look at what genetic factors influence our likelihood to get cancer. They look at what changes take place in a cell that lead to uncontrolled growth that causes cancer. And they look at various treatment strategies to determine which ones are most effective. At every angle, scientists are working hard to find a cure. Hopefully we will figure out how to cure or ‘pause’ cancer soon.
I think many cancers are now curable, for example testicular cancer has fantastic treatment and survival rates. If you think of a cure as a healthy life after treatment, the number of cancers this will be true for will keep on growing.
The complexity of different types of cancer makes this tricky but, like what has been said, we can make people live longer now and have a better life after cancer. It may or may not stop it coming back but it certainly helps.
Some of the drugs that cure cancers can also be very expensive. I think there is a need to find cheaper alternatives which then may help provide everyone with suitable control over their illnesses.
