I think this is a possibility in the future. People who study ‘artificial intelligence’ often try to make computers that can do tasks in the same way that humans do the tasks. There are already artifical retinas- the part of the eye that converts light into neural signals (https://royalsociety.org/news/2010/retinal-implant/) that can help blind people see (although not perfect sight). The possibility is definitely out there, but I think it will take a long, long time!
