      Hi Alex!
Everyone has stem cells in their bodies which help to repair damaged or old tissues. In people who have disorders like diabetes, their stem cells don’t work as well as healthy people’s cells. I think the biggest benefit of stem cell research is being able to take stem cells from a patient, grow them in a lab and change them to make them work better so that they can be given back to the patient. This means that it’s the person’s own stem cells which are helping to treat them so their body won’t reject them. This is called an autologous therapy. Hope this answers your question! 🙂
