Question: My eyes are growing too fast and I need to wear glasses because otherwise I can’t see very far, I’m not colour blind and my 3d vision is fine, the optician says that it is part of my genes, My Cousin has the same problem as me, he uses contact lenses when he sleeps, would that help me too, because the optician didn’t recommend it to me?

Hiya, I agree with Andrew that it’s best to ask a professional. Contacts only work to help focus the image on the back of your eye (the retina), but don’t actually do anything to change the shape of your eye (contacts for your eyes aren’t like braces for your teeth!). Overall, I think it’s best to only wear your contacts when you need to see, because wearing them too much might increase the risk of infection- and no one wants an eye infection!

Your cousin might be wearing a type of contact lens called an ‘Ortho-K’ contact lens. These are worn overnight and have a specially designed back surface that reshapes the front of the eye. Not every optometrist fits them and they do not suit everyone. It is best if you discuss this option with your regular optometrist.
